In Very Few Words

May 5th, 2012 — 11:12pm

Saturday evening.

Too tired to be talkative.

A good day:  busy, sunny.

Best Parts:

*A cup of coffee from the Holiday gas station in Newberry at 6 a.m.

*Becky being here for the weekend.

*A cool gift Becky made and painted my favorite color:

Ear ring holder from Becky

*Wearing my moccasins.  I like them so much I put them in a book.

My moccasins

*A care package in the mail from my sister (which included a letter that made me laugh out loud twice.)

Care package from my sister

*Sitting with Genie and John for a while.

*A surprise visit from Phil and Gavin.

*A walk in the evening sunshine with Sallie.

*An amazing sentence brought in by my friend Bill Quill from Louisville:

“I am fulfilled and weary.  This Kentucky Derby, whatever it is–a race, an emotion, a turbulence, an explosion–is one of the most beautiful and violent and satisfying things I have ever experienced.”   John Steinbeck, after watching the 1956 race.

sunshine calling…

May 2nd, 2012 — 9:31pm

Today’s Special:  Malted Belgium Waffle with strawberries and whipped cream and a small cheese omelette.

And here is a blog, all in a rush, because the mild May sunshine is calling and Sallie is barking.

We’ve been back open at the diner since April  the thirteenth, and it’s really good to be back, but when did THIS happen?

Oh.  Today.  Already done, actually, but my surprise struck me as funny.

Two weeks ago I had a lovely time in Marquette, speaking at the annual spring meeting of the Upper Peninsula Publishers and Authors Association.  Truck broke down, which wasn’t so bad, really, as I got to hang out in Marquette for a few days.  Here is a sight on my walk that Monday to pick up the truck after repair:

And last weekend Rick and I were in Lansing for the ‘Night for Notables,’ part of the Michigan Notable Books program.  I’m thrilled and honored that SOUTH OF SUPERIOR was one of twenty chosen for 2012.

The stage at the Michigan Notable Books ceremony (and why did I not take more pictures?)

And now for that sunshine.  Off to dive in to the great outdoors.
