sunshine calling…
Today’s Special: Malted Belgium Waffle with strawberries and whipped cream and a small cheese omelette.
And here is a blog, all in a rush, because the mild May sunshine is calling and Sallie is barking.
We’ve been back open at the diner since April the thirteenth, and it’s really good to be back, but when did THIS happen?
Oh. Today. Already done, actually, but my surprise struck me as funny.
Two weeks ago I had a lovely time in Marquette, speaking at the annual spring meeting of the Upper Peninsula Publishers and Authors Association. Truck broke down, which wasn’t so bad, really, as I got to hang out in Marquette for a few days. Here is a sight on my walk that Monday to pick up the truck after repair:
And last weekend Rick and I were in Lansing for the ‘Night for Notables,’ part of the Michigan Notable Books program. I’m thrilled and honored that SOUTH OF SUPERIOR was one of twenty chosen for 2012.
And now for that sunshine. Off to dive in to the great outdoors.

I just saw the Prairie Evers page! It’s fantastic and you know I loved seeing all the family pics that you shared with your readers!!! I always loved that pic of Uncle Henry shoeing the horse! All those corded muscles in his arms make this an awesome composition! Your knee sock picture made me laugh! You look like a miniature hippie!!!! Way to go Ellen and congratulations again on the Michigan Notable Book Award and getting the recognition you deserve!!!

Thank you, Mary! Glad you like the knee socks–I think they’re very cool, myself.

Ellen, I agree with Mary. The photos are wonderful. So evocative of another kind of life. It’s nice to know a little more about where you came from. Can’t wait to read Prairie Evers! Will see you in GM the third week in July, as always.

Congrats, Ellen, on South of Superior being named a Michigan Notable Book…and so deserving. I didn’t know that you had another book being published so soon. Can’t wait to read it. Karen
Thank you, Karen!

So I had to find the PE page, Ans I agree that it’s very cool. Why was I thinking it was more of a Laura Ingalls Wilder / Caddie Woodlawn kind of thing? Not sure. But congratulations in advance on its release and on being Notable!
Thank you, Paige!

Just finished your book, Ellen. What a treat!
I was a student at A-F High School when your dad was a teacher there; I was also a teacher at Caro HS. I understand from an article in the Tuscola County Advertiser that you went there and were inspired by Trix Harbin, a friend and colleague of mine. With all of that commonality, I almost feel that I know you. Now I am the director of the library in Unionville where I am pleased to have bought your book for our patrons.
Congratulations on having your book chosen as a Michigan Notable Book. You can be sure I will promote it whenever I can.

Kay,
It is wonderful to hear from you! I love all the connections…my dad, and Mrs. Harbin… and my brother was a principal at USA for quite a while, too. Thank you for your good wishes!
