Winter Sun

January 14th, 2013 — 8:23pm

The snow fell hard for a while this morning, in thick slow flakes.  Now the sun’s shining bright against the all the new white and the big lake’s blue.  A friend sent me a copy of a poem the other day, perfect for my mood.  Now I greedily want another, perfect for this day.   This is the one I found:  Winter Sun, by Molly Fisk.

My Stars

January 12th, 2013 — 8:19pm

If I don’t write down that the best part of my today was a snowmobiler saying, “Well, my stars,” with no apparent sarcasm, cynicism, or irony, I’ll forget and it’ll be lost.

“My stars.”

A phrase from my childhood in the thumb of Michigan.  People said that there.  I said that there.  I’m gonna start saying it again.  I am.
